They tend to travel on trails established by scout ants looking for food.  Along the way, there are pheromones to help guide the ant colony members—straight to your kitchen!

How long does it take for ants to die after extermination?

Control of ants is often the most effective when it involves bait. Bait is mixed with food pleasing to ants, which the worker ants take back to the nest. As the bait is passed around from worker to worker, the hope is that it will eventually kill the nest, including the queen. A bait that is too fast-acting won’t reach the full potential in the nest, so a slower-acting poison is best. Simply wiping out the worker ants with spray is not effective as there are many more ants in the nest.

How long does ant treatment last?

Treating ants usually requires a multi-pronged approach which combines mechanical, sanitation, and chemical forms of control. Because ants can colonize and reproduce at such a rapid rate, and because they are so hard to eradicate, ants are one of the most common home-invading insects which prompt a call to a professional exterminator.

In the home, the nest in wall spaces, beneath floors, and in hidden away areas such as the heating system or water heater closet. They are attracted to food and water.

Why do ants keep coming back?

Ants are drawn to places with food and water. As long as they have access to one of those, they will continue to return. Sealing ant entry areas and using tight-fitting containers to store food will make the home unattractive to these diligent and ubiquitous insects.
